Day by day
Day 1Onna (Resorts & Cape Manzamo) — a sights dayOkinawa, 5 stops
The west-coast resort belt — big beachfront hotels, the dramatic 'elephant-trunk' cliff of Cape Manzamo, calm swimming bays and the famous Blue Cave snorkelling. The classic place to slow down by the sea; effectively car-only.
- 08:00Breakfast Seaside Drive-in
A retro American-style drive-in on the Onna coast since 1967, famous for its hearty soup, steaks and a 24-hour takeout window — a nostalgic taste of post-war Okinawa. A fun, family-friendly stop on the resort road with ocean views.
- 08:30
Cape Manzamo
A grassy clifftop on the Onna coast where the rock has weathered into an 'elephant's trunk' arch above turquoise sea — Okinawa's most famous coastal view. A short, mostly flat boardwalk loop with a small facility fee; glorious at sunset.
- 09:15
Manza Beach
A sheltered, calm resort beach with soft sand and gentle water, marine activities and full facilities — easy and safe for families. Swimming is seasonal (roughly April–October); day use is possible even if you're not staying at the resort.
- 11:30Onna Roadside Station (Nakayukui Market)
A roadside station on the resort highway selling local produce, Okinawan sweets and souvenirs, with stalls for sata-andagi doughnuts, purple-yam treats and fresh juice. A handy, family-friendly stop to stock up or snack while driving the coast.
- 13:34
Blue Cave (Cape Maeda)
A sea cave off Cape Maeda that glows electric blue from light reflected through the water — Okinawa's most popular snorkel and dive spot, swimming with tropical fish. Go on a guided tour (booked ahead); access is down steps or by boat, so not for prams, and conditions are weather-dependent.
Day 2Motobu & Churaumi (North) — a sights dayOkinawa, 4 stops
The far north-west and the island's headline family day — the whale sharks of Churaumi Aquarium, the beaches and dolphins of Ocean Expo Park, the scenic bridge to Kouri Island and the dreamy fukugi-tree lanes of Bise. Spread out and made for a rental car.
- 07:40Check out of your stay
- 08:30
Bise Fukugi Tree Road
A grid of sandy lanes through a centuries-old windbreak of dense fukugi trees in a seaside hamlet near the aquarium — dappled, cool and timeless, explorable on foot, by rental bike or water-buffalo cart. Free and lovely; a calm contrast to the aquarium crowds.
- 09:35
Okinawa Churaumi Aquarium
One of the world's great aquariums, its vast 'Kuroshio Sea' tank home to whale sharks and manta rays behind a giant acrylic wall. The island's must-do family attraction, inside Ocean Expo Park; fully stroller- and wheelchair-accessible, quietest late afternoon.
- 12:20Lunch Kishimoto Shokudo (Okinawa soba)
Okinawa's oldest soba shop, going since 1905 in Motobu town — springy hand-made noodles in a clear bonito-and-pork broth, served in a wooden hall. A famous lunch stop near the aquarium; cash only, often closed Wednesdays, and queues form.
- 13:20
Ocean Expo Park (Emerald Beach)
The big seaside park around the aquarium — the white-sand Emerald Beach, free dolphin shows, a tropical botanical garden and an Okinawan-village museum. Mostly free, flat and pram-friendly; an easy half-day with the aquarium.
